#MobileChat No. 119: Are we robots yet?

2015’s Consumer Electronic Show just came to a close, and our lives are becoming more automated and data driven. Self driving cars that look like space ships are all the rage, our health information is more accessible than ever, and smart appliance ecosystems are starting to pop up. CES is always a fun glimpse into the future of tech, and even the simple things like the unbundling of cable TV have me excited.

For this week’s #MobileChat let’s talk about the implications of CES and how automated the internet of things is going to make our lives in the coming years.

One trend you will notice when reading recaps of CES is that our houses are becoming robots. The internet of things is making it easier and easier for us to sit back and let the house take care of itself. Sleek home security cameras can now recognize faces and notify you when your kid gets home from school with certainty that it is your kid. Your fridge can now notify you when you’re low on milk, and I imagine this will only become more sophisticated (also, shoutout to Louisville’s FirstBuild Microfactory on their headway in the connected appliances charge). And one of my favorite new home gadgets: a router that charges your devices wirelessly. I am ready for a wireless world.

The home is one of the first internet of things battlegrounds. Sure, it’s really expensive to have a connected home right now, but if we know one thing about tech, it is that things get cheaper fast. It is going to be exciting to see what comes next.

Join us Wednesday, January 14th from 9-10pm ET via #MobileChat on Twitter as we talk about the internet of things and more. What is your favorite tech trend from CES? Check out this article and let us know tomorrow.
